A collection of tunes I’ve written. Primarily for English, Scottish, or Contra dancing.
‘Magill Saunter’ was written for the Swarthmore College Folk Dance Club’s 50th English-Scottish Ball. It’s paired with the dance ‘Semi-Centennial Swirl’.
Unless I have immediate strong feelings about a title, most of my tunes begin life as ‘Reel #5’ or something similar. Jane Roberts, a local cellist, took exception to this tune being called ‘Unnamed Jig’ for as long as it was, and changed the title to ‘Untamed Jig’.
This is also the title tune for ‘Trip to Tarble’, found in the DelVal RSCDS’s 50th Anniversary Collection, the ‘Delaware Valley Gold Book’.
This is the title tune for Melissa Shaner’s dance, ‘Tarble-In-Clothier’, found in the DelVal RSCDS’s 50th Anniversary Collection. ‘Still Standing’ is a tongue-in-cheek comment about how the Tarble All-Campus Space at Swarthmore College has been under perpetual threat of being demolished for about 5 years now. Still hasn’t happened, though!
Waltz I wrote as a birthday present for Jennifer Tyson, a local dancer and thoroughly wonderful person.
I wrote this tune during a somewhat more melancholy New Year’s Eve a few years ago. I suppose it could work as a waltz, but it feels more like an English Country Dance tune in need of a dance.
